When you’re specifying ESD flooring, demos and tests performed in a lab tell only part of the story. The real question is, how will the floor perform in your space? That’s why we recommend a practical, hands-on approach: Install a test patch and treat it like it’s already in service. Expose it to traffic. Roll your chair and measure charge generation. Move heavy carts; be sure the wheels make contact with conductive particles in the material. Drive a forklift over it. Clean it like your janitorial staff would. Watch for wear, maintenance issues, load performance, and ESD compliance. A pilot installation – set up to replicate real-world conditions – can reveal challenges you won’t see on a spec sheet.

If you’d like to install your own ESD test patch, call today. We’ll supply the materials. 617-923-2000

ESD Flooring – Try Before You Buy

Toggle transcript

[Narrator] Before you commit to purchasing a new ESD floor, make the floor prove itself, in your space, under your conditions.
Install a test patch. Put it in the center of the action. Stomp, scuff, spill chemicals on it. The way your team actually will. How much charge do you generate when you sit in a chair? Roll carts over the test patch. Do the wheels make contact with the conductive particles in the flooring material? Does the floor need to be buffed or scrubbed? Drive heavy equipment over it. Turn, twist, drive back and forth. Let the floor take a beating for a month or two and see what it looks like.

Then retest for ESD compliance. If it passes inspection, you’ve found your floor. If the floor meets ESD standards, passes tests and checks all the right boxes for your application, you’ve got an ESD floor you can rely on. Now, and for the life of your floor.

To discuss your project or order a test patch, give us a call, 617-923-2000. We keep you grounded.

Ammunitions and Explosives

The handling and manufacture of ammunition and explosives requires different static protection procedures than those for handling electronic devices. The Department of Defense (DoD) manual 4145.26-M, The Contractor’s Safety Manual for Ammunition and Explosives, deals with this kind of work. This document was modified on March 13, 2008, and a change incorporated on August 31,

Exploring ESD Flooring Options for Electronics Manufacturing & Handling Applications

For electronics manufacturing and handling facilities, ESD standard S20.20 requires the use of ESD-protective footwear. Acceptable ESD footwear includes conductive heel straps, toe straps, sole straps and ESD shoes. The conductive elements in ESD-protective footwear bond with the conductive elements in the floor, creating a reliable ground connection and protecting the wearer against potential shocks

Flooring for Electronics Manufacturing & Handling Applications

Electronics industry flooring applications—including electronics manufacturing facilities, microelectronics fabrication, circuit board assembly, box build, electronics test and repair, cleanrooms, labs and R&D facilities—have more stringent static-control requirements than do most other applications. Electronic equipment with highly sensitive microcircuits is particularly susceptible to damage caused by the sudden spike in electrical current that results from random

Best ESD Flooring Options for Cleanrooms

Cleanrooms are known for the extraordinary measures used to control particles to ultra-clean ISO standards. Ironically, the static-control flooring in cleanrooms doesn’t always meet industry standards and specifications. Making sense of electrical standards and specifications takes time. Selecting the right ESD flooring—also known as antistatic flooring or static-control flooring—for cleanroom applications requires detailed attention to a
